Pepper spray is one of the many options we all can use for self-defense, but for some, it might be the only one available due to state laws or country regulations (international users). In this post, I had the pleasure to interview John Anderson, who is the National Sales Manager at Sabre Red and talk about their products, training, and tips with pepper sprays.

Let’s get right to the point. What makes SABRE pepper spray more effective than other brands?
Great question, there are multiple reasons why SABRE outperforms any other pepper spray brand, but I will highlight the 2 most important factors.
NOTE: HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) which means that SABRE pepper sprays never fail due to inconsistency heat levels. SABRE states that no other brand can make the same claim.
For the most part, I carry a firearm concealed, and also a pocket knife. However, I cannot take them to many places such as government buildings and certain establishments. Are there any restrictions –that you know of- to carry pepper spray? Could you also elaborate on the benefit of having a pepper spray?
Pepper Spray is legal in all 50 states, but there could be certain restrictions on the size or use of pepper spray. SABRE recommends reviewing your state and local laws in regards to carrying pepper spray. The benefits of carrying pepper spray are numerous; pepper spray is highly effective at protecting yourself at a safe distance at a low cost and with minimal training. You can also use pepper spray and not worry about any long-term side effects or the fear of accidentally hurting yourself or a loved one permanently. Even if you accidentally spray yourself or a loved one the effects wear off within an hour.
On my video, I was not moving my arm as I was spraying the balloons. Later I learned that it was not the right way to do it. Could you explain how a pepper spray is supposed to be used and why?
SABRE pepper spray is most effective when sprayed in the face towards the eyes; it is best to aim at the targets head and spray from side to side across the targets head. SABRE does provide training classes, videos, and even practice sprays. Watch the following video:
Training courses can be found on the SABRE Personal Safety Training Page.
How long does the effect of pepper spray last on a person? What is the most effective way to remove pepper spray?
Pepper spray can and will affect people differently, the average time someone will feel the effects is about 30 min. Here is a link for best practices on decontamination: https://www.sabrered.com/decontamination

Some mothers fear that children will take possession of the pepper spray and use it without authorization. How SABRE educate women, especially mothers about pepper spray and children safety?
Again great question! SABRE is highly proactive in educating and training. On the back of all SABRE pepper spray packaging is a FREE training video link. We also developed SABRE’s Personal Safety Academy and College Safety Program classes that are available nationwide. More info can be found at Personal Safety Training.
